Before You Start
You will need to have Lunio's multiplatform tracking script installed on your website before Bing traffic can be monitored. If you have not done this yet, follow the instructions in Installing Lunio's Multiplatform Tracking Script.
You will also need administrator access to your Lunio dashboard and access to your Microsoft Ads account.
⚠️ If you are setting up a new platform for the first time, it can take up to 24 hours for the tag to activate and for data to start appearing.
Step 1) Add Bing as a Platform in Lunio
Log into your Lunio dashboard as an administrator and click the Settings (gear) icon in the top right navigation bar to open System Settings.
From there, go to Platforms → Multi Platform → Add New Mplat +.
Fill in the fields as follows:
Select Platform = Bing
Name = a name that matches your workspace, so it is easy to identify later
Average Cost Per Click = enter a CPC manually or select Auto Calculate to let Lunio work it out for you. If you choose auto calculate, at least one other non-Google platform in your account must already have a manually defined CPC
Protection Status = set to Protect if you plan to enable audience protection, or Monitor if you only want to track invalid clicks for now
Add Domains to This Platform = the domains linked to your website, including any subdomains. Copy the full URL from your browser to make sure the domain is complete (for example, https://www.example.com)
Once everything is filled in, click Confirm.
Step 2) Assign the Bing Platform to a Workspace
Now that the platform has been created, you need to assign it to a workspace so the data appears on your dashboard.
Go to Settings and select Workspaces.
Click the pencil icon next to the workspace where you want to add Bing.
Go to the Multi Platform tab and click Add Configurations.
Find the Bing platform you just created in the side panel and click the + button to add it to the workspace.
A confirmation notification will appear once the platform has been assigned. If you need more detail on managing workspaces, see How to add a non-Google platform to a workspace.
Step 3) Configure URL Tracking in Microsoft Ads
Lunio needs to identify which clicks come from Bing. If you already have auto tagging enabled in Microsoft Ads (which appends an msclkid parameter to your URLs), Lunio will recognise your Bing traffic automatically and you can skip this step.
If auto tagging is not enabled, you will need to add Lunio's custom tracking parameter to your account.
In Microsoft Ads, go to Settings → Account level.
Locate the Final URL suffix field and enter ppcp_platform=bing.
If you already have other tracking parameters in your Final URL suffix, add the Lunio parameter to the end using an ampersand. For example: utm_campaign=abcd&existing_parameters&ppcp_platform=bing.
You will also need to add utm_campaign to your Final URL suffix, set to your campaign name, so your campaigns show with their names in Lunio.
💡 If you use the Final URL suffix at a lower level in your account (such as campaign, ad group, or ad level), you will need to add the parameter at that level instead.
Step 4) Verify Clicks Are Appearing
Allow up to 24 hours for data to begin flowing, then check your Lunio dashboard to confirm that Bing clicks are showing. Select the workspace you assigned the platform to and look for Bing traffic in the overview.
If no data appears after 24 hours, check that the multiplatform tracking script is installed correctly and that the URL parameter or auto tagging is in place.
Enabling Audience Protection (Optional)
The steps above give you full visibility of invalid Bing traffic on your dashboard. If you also want Lunio to automatically exclude invalid users from seeing your Microsoft Ads, you can set up audience protection by following the steps below.
This is a separate optional setup, so its steps start again from Step 1. To do this you will need your UET Tag ID, which you can find in Microsoft Ads under Tools → UET tag.
⚠️ Audience exclusions in Microsoft Ads only take effect once the audience reaches a minimum size of 300 users, so exclusions will not be applied until that threshold is met.
Step 1) Create the Exclusion Audience in Microsoft Ads
In Microsoft Ads, go to Tools → Audiences → Create.
Set up the audience with the following values:
Name: Lunio Invalid Users
Type: Remarketing list (this is the default)
Tag name: your UET Tag ID
Who to add to your audience: Custom Events
Category equals: Lunio
Label equals: Invalid_User
Value: 0
Membership duration: 390 days
Optionally add a description such as "Invalid users detected by Lunio."
Make sure sharing is set to Only used by the referenced tag name.
Click Save.
💡 Microsoft Ads may generate a script snippet after you save. You can ignore this completely as Lunio handles the tagging.
Step 2) Apply the Exclusion Audience to Your Campaigns
Go to the main overview page in Microsoft Ads and click Campaigns.
Select the campaigns you want to protect.
Click Edit, then choose Associate with Audiences.
Under Campaign exclusions, click Add exclusion.
Under Audience, select Remarketing lists.
Choose Lunio Invalid Users and click +.
Click Save.
Step 3) Verify the Audience Is Active
After a few days of traffic, go to Tools → Audiences in Microsoft Ads and check that the Lunio Invalid Users audience is populating, as the audience size will grow as Lunio detects invalid users.
Keep in mind that the number of users in the audience may not match the number of invalid clicks on your Lunio dashboard exactly. This is because Microsoft Ads counts users based on browser IDs while Lunio counts clicks based on IP addresses, so a single invalid user can generate multiple clicks.
