Before You Start
This guide builds on your existing Meta setup rather than replacing it, so you will need to have completed How to Set Up Meta in Lunio first, which covers installing the tracking script, adding Meta as a platform and tagging your ads so Lunio recognises them as Meta traffic.
You will also need owner or admin permissions in Lunio, along with a Facebook login that has access to the correct Meta Business Manager and permission to manage the relevant ad accounts.
⚠️ Your ppcp_platform parameter or supported UTMs must stay in place on your ads, as this is how Lunio identifies a click as Meta traffic in the first place. The parameters below add detail to those clicks rather than replacing the tag, so removing it will stop your Meta reporting working.
💡 You can confirm your Meta access by going to Meta Business Settings → Accounts → Ad Accounts and checking that your user is assigned, as the connection will fail or authorise the wrong account if your Facebook user is not linked correctly.
Step 1) Connect Your Meta Account
Before you begin, log into Facebook in your browser using the account that has the required Business Manager access, so that Meta authorises the correct account when you are redirected.
Log into Lunio and go to Settings → Platforms → Meta Tokens.
2. Click Add New Meta Token, which redirects you to Meta.
3. Confirm the Business account you want to connect.
4. Approve the requested permissions, then click Send and confirm.
Meta then returns you to Lunio where you will see a confirmation message, and your new token appears in the tokens table as Active.
Step 2) Add Your URL Parameters
Lunio needs Meta to pass its own campaign, ad set and ad identifiers with each click, as this is what allows Lunio to match a click to the specific ad that produced it. Add the following parameters to your ads, alongside the tracking parameter you added when setting Meta up.
Parameter | Value | What it enables |
|
| Campaign level reporting |
|
| Ad set reporting |
|
| Ad reporting |
|
| Placement breakdown |
|
| Source site breakdown |
Meta replaces each value in curly brackets with the real identifier when someone clicks your ad, so enter them exactly as shown above rather than substituting your own campaign or ad names.
⚠️ Your campaign, ad set and ad reporting depends on ppcp_campaign, adset_id and ad_id, so if any of those three are missing that reporting will not appear in your dashboard. All three values must be numeric, which means entering a campaign name rather than a campaign ID will stop Meta reporting working for those clicks.
💡 If you already pass your campaign ID using campaign_id, utm_id or utm_campaign, Lunio will use whichever it finds first in the order ppcp_campaign, campaign_id, utm_id then utm_campaign, so you do not need to add ppcp_campaign as well.
Step 3) Apply the Parameters in Meta Ads Manager
URL parameters are configured at ad level, so you will need to apply them to each ad you want reporting for.
In Meta Ads Manager, go to the campaign you want to update and click into the Ads tab.
2. Select your ads and click Edit.
3. Scroll to the Tracking section and add your parameters to the URL parameters field, which we recommend as it keeps your parameters separate from your landing page URL.
4. Click Apply to save your changes.
If you have several ads to update, you can select them all from the campaign view and click the edit icon to apply the same parameters across them at once, which works in the same way as editing a single ad.
Step 4) Verify Your Reporting
Click one of your live Meta ads and check the URL of the page you land on, confirming that your parameters are present and that the values have been replaced with numbers rather than appearing as {{campaign.id}}.
Once tagged clicks start coming through, open your Lunio dashboard and confirm that Meta campaign, ad set and ad data is appearing.
💡 If you remove or deactivate your Meta token your Meta data will stop updating, and if the token expires you will need to reconnect it.
If you run into any issues, please reach out to your account manager and they'll be happy to help!
